Holding insurers to their promise.

About Big Insurance Watch

Big Insurance Watch is a project of the Emergency Air Rescue Alliance (EARA). We bring an emergency air medical perspective to a broader failure: patients pay for coverage, then face barriers when they need care.

Our mission

Insurers collect the premiums. Patients should get the coverage they paid for. When care is denied, payment is delayed or a binding award goes unpaid, that promise breaks down.

Big Insurance Watch documents recurring failures to deliver on that promise and holds them up to public scrutiny. Our starting point is emergency air medical care, but our lens includes patients, families and providers across health insurance.

Care should come first.

A paid premium should buy more than a promise. Emergency air medical providers deliver care when patients cannot wait, then can be left fighting denied claims, delayed payments and unpaid binding awards. Carrying the cost of care already delivered can strain the crews, aircraft and readiness communities rely on, putting patients’ access to lifesaving transport at risk. That is why insurance accountability matters to us.

Clarity. Evidence. Accountability.

A clear perspective

EARA advocates. Big Insurance Watch documents failures and demands accountability. BIW is a project of EARA, and that relationship is disclosed openly. Our work examines insurer conduct, industry claims, financial interests and the forces shaping access to care.

Readers should be able to distinguish a documented fact, a disputed claim, an opinion and our own analysis. We name sources, explain their limits and make relevant interests clear.

Evidence with context

We aim to link to original reports, policy documents, and other source material so readers can assess the evidence for themselves. A single experience can raise an important question; it does not, on its own, establish a broader pattern.

Our rule: never use a stronger adjective when a stronger fact is available. We review tips before publication, seek permission before identifying personal storytellers and update the record when new evidence changes a finding. Questions or corrections can be sent through Tell BIW.
